The Sugar Bean

Since the very beginning, I have been asked where did the name Sugar Bean Bakery come from? And it seems so simple to me, and I am completely aware, it is simple only to me.
I have had the privilege of nicknaming my first three grand babies. My first, well, he was born in Washington State, and his mom and dad were living with us at the time. Every morning I would get to hold him and he would snuggle up in the shape of a bean. He became my Butter Bean. As he grew older, it was simply "B".
The 2nd Grandbaby was a little harder but his name included Pie. Now the third was a girl. And surprisingly enough she cuddled with me exactly as the first. I could not call her Butter Bean because that name was already taken. She became my Sugar Bean.
She was only a few years old when we decided it was time to go full steam ahead and open the Bakery. Sugar Bean Bakery was born. I'd love to say that is all there is to this story, but there is more.
Because she knew her nickname was Sugar Bean, and the Bakery was named Sugar Bean Bakery, it became "her" bakery. Even at 3 years old, she knew the importance of helping the customers. She was in charge (so to speak).
When we couldn't get to the phone in time.🤣
A very feisty gal, she would let us know when the customers were having to wait too long. She would get their drink orders and move the step stool over to the soda machine and get their sodas for them. Of course, always washing her hands before. And our customers completely enjoyed having interactions with her.
She would let me know when she did not approve of a new treat, and especially when she did.
The best part of having her at the bakery, was when she would clean off the tables and ask our customers if they liked their meal. She truly was THE Bakery.
When we closed, she was as heartbroken as I was, but also was aware I needed to get better and healthy again.
When I re-opened as an @Home Baker, the Sugar Bean was so excited, she let me know what her favorites were and what I needed to put on my menu. Always my biggest fan.
Now The Sugar Bean is 15 years old, Sophomore in High School, a member of the G-Gettes Drill Team @ Gunnison High School, and most importantly she IS The Sugar Bean still. She is excited about each adventure I take and when she can, she joins me at vendor events.
The Bakery is in her blood, as of this year, she became my Virtual Assistant for Social Media. Knowing this is still her baby too, she lets her creative side take over with our social media accounts.
I love the relationship her and I have, it reminds me of the relationship I had with my Nana. And I wouldn't trade it for anything in the world.
The Sugar Bean is so happy to be a working part of the bakery, and I am so thankful for her more than words can say. So when you see her, be sure to say hello! We ❤️ this gal.
